The Rationalist is a Web site and a man. The Web site is to explore an alternative set of explanations as to why things are the way they are. It is also to explore alternative paths things might take, or might have taken. History, of just about anything, is welcome as a topic here; as are science, technology, geography and religion. If you believe that things just happen in this world, especially social and political events, and that, as one former radical told me shortly after getting his first professional job, the more the government prospers, the more I will prosper, then this Web site is not for you.

The man is a Caribbean-American who lives near the estuary of the Hudson River. He grew up in the 1,960s and 70s and is not inclined to the belief that things have improved since then. He has a taste for good food, proper use of the English language, pre-automobile lifestyles, travel, erudite banter, and unshaved ladies (not necessarily in that order).
